Ha I grew up in Whanganui’s Sergeant Art Gallery as both my parents worked there: snacks after school, exploring the ancient ruins underneath and sleeping on the huge square seats. I hated the art but fondly remember the time someone set up a haunted house inside it. Glad it’s finally back open!

I learned, in a way that the coins finally dropped, I learned that the age of rhyme, reason, law, justice and common sense has gone somewhere, and not on planet earth. Be it globally, the land of the supposedly free and brave, the land of the saviours birth, Gaza, Ukraine, the attacks on Tangata Whenua and all things Maori, attacks on Kiwi society by Atlas and Seymour, and on and on ad infinitum...............ugly, divisive and attrocious things just keep happening. In the light of this big learning from the year, and the damage to hope and dreams for the rule of law and goodness, I have found myself looking more keenly for the good in the world outside of the news. Looking around me, at people who are doing good, reading lots and being the good I want to see in the world. My Palestinian Flag, hand sewn with a heart on the middle stripe, it has flown in the top paddock for a year now. I have learned, that I am the change, and if the world won't, I will do it at the most ground zero level I can............I am the change that will make a difference by being the most alive and best me I can............and that is the light in the darkness, all of us who do that, without gazzillions of dollars but by being rich inside of ourselves.........wealth without money. Thanks Jesse.

This is the other significant and related learning from 2024. A brilliant read.

⁉️ I learnt a lot more about being "neuro spicy" & being at peace with it - the main one being you CAN have satisfying "Connection" to strangers (friends you haven't met yet & might never meet in person) or people you know from their journalism or public personas but are still "strangers". Most of the Substacks I am interested in are full of intelligent kind people whose gripes with politicians & legislation etc. are based on the HARM they do to vulnerable people, or normally well settled people who are suddently turfed out of their jobs for no good reason, or who need mental health care, or an operation at a public hospital they can't get in a timely manner, or can't get a decent home for them or their family - on and on.

🤷It is hard to talk to people in my life about such things as they are busy surviving all of that, so having "conversations" via these communities is a gift - & your space here is one of them, so thank you for 2024, & let us hope 2025 can be better for more people eh⁉️🫂🎄💙💜

I think Wayne Brown has pulled the wool over many peoples eyes. He believes in nothing, is a politician, a politician, a politician and nothing else. I think his deputy might be something special but he ain’t.
